Masters in creating a pleasant environment
You probably know RIGO Verffabriek as a specialist in linseed oil paint. Linseed oil is a vegetable oil that you can grow. It is made from the seeds of the flax plant, also known as linseed. We grow this flax in the Haarlemmermeerpolder and after the harvest we bring the linseed to the Zaanse Schans to have it processed into linseed oil by the De Bonte Hen oil mill. Linseed oil has actually been an important ingredient for making paint since time immemorial. And at RIGO we have breathed new life into this way of making paint by technically innovating the manufacturing process.
In addition to paint based on linseed oil, we have come up with even more sustainable solutions at RIGO Verffabriek.
What not many people know is that we also make our ROYL floor oils with linseed oil. The ROYL OIL 1K is even a mixture of different, exclusively vegetable, oils. This floor oil has proven itself as a carefree floor finish for more than forty years. When the oil was invented during the second generation, the starting point was: indestructible floor finish and as natural as possible. With the ROYL OIL 1K you have the most sustainable finish for your wooden floor in your hands. It fits in an ecological interior.
Because times change and our customers often have (or get) less time to finish a floor, we later developed the ROYL OIL 2K. By adding the second component, the oil dries faster and the floor can be loaded faster.
Of course, we have also thought about how we can make our parquet varnishes more sustainable. For example, three years ago at InCoDa we launched our water-based STEP Parquet Varnishes based on a biobased binder and isocyanate-free hardener. With this we take a big step forward in the use of sustainable raw materials. An additional advantage is that the new type of hardener is more pleasant to use and also has a 72-hour pot life. That is also sustainable, because you no longer have to throw away leftover varnish.
Where we once started in 1938 as a small family business, we are now part of a European group, the Blanchon Group, which also includes Ciranova. A European company that also once started in the same way as a family business and serves the same niche markets as we do. One of our niches is, as mentioned, our linseed oil paint for current and future heritage, but our other and joint niche is the production of water-based floor varnishes and floor finishing products for parquet.
We consciously chose the Blanchon Group because our ambitions are close to each other. Our joint ambitions in the field of sustainability in particular will accelerate product development. Our laboratory in IJmuiden works closely with colleagues in France and together we developed the SKYLT Extra Topcoat with a biobased binder produced by Blanchon. We are currently working on a paint product with fillers based on eggshells, which is a residual product from the food industry and can replace mineral raw materials. By joining forces with the Blanchon Group, we can take even bigger steps to realize our sustainability ambitions.
By focusing on sustainability, maintaining beautiful (old) crafts and producing environmentally friendly paint, varnish and oil, we try to contribute to a pleasant, liveable environment for everyone. As RIGO and as a group, we still have many ambitions, but we dare to say that as a group, together with our employees, customers and suppliers, we are Masters in creating a pleasant environment!
